YOUR FINANCIAL SNAPSHOT

Start With Your Numbers

Add your assets and debts to see a personalized explanation of your estimated net worth.

Track Your Progress

Net worth is an estimate based on the information you enter. It is not a credit score or a complete assessment of financial health. Asset prices, outstanding balances, and liquidity can change.

STEP 04 — TRACK YOUR PROGRESS

Follow Your Net Worth Over Time

Save a monthly snapshot of your financial position and see how your assets, debts, and net worth change over time. Each snapshot is based on the information currently entered in your tracker.

SAVE A MONTHLY SNAPSHOT

Record Your Financial Position

FINANCIAL INDICATORS

Look Beyond the Main Number

These indicators provide additional context about your debts, assets, and available cash. They are not financial health scores.

01

Debt-to-Asset Ratio

—

Total Liabilities ÷ Total Assets × 100

This ratio shows how your outstanding debts compare with the total estimated value of your assets.

A lower ratio generally indicates less debt relative to asset value. It does not show whether monthly payments are affordable.
02

Asset Coverage Ratio

—

Total Assets ÷ Total Liabilities

This ratio compares the estimated value of your assets with your outstanding debts.

An asset coverage ratio above 1.00× indicates that estimated assets exceed liabilities. It does not mean those assets can be sold quickly or without losses.
03

Cash Share of Assets

—

Cash & Savings ÷ Total Assets × 100

This indicator estimates how much of your total asset value is held in cash and savings accounts.

Cash share alone cannot determine whether your emergency savings are adequate. Monthly expenses and accessibility matter.
AN IMPORTANT DISTINCTION

Net Worth Is Not the Same as Available Cash

You can have positive net worth and still struggle to cover an unexpected expense. Homes, vehicles, retirement accounts, and some investments may be difficult or costly to convert into spendable money.

This tracker uses your cash and savings balances as a simple measure of readily available financial assets. It is not a complete calculation of liquid net worth.

Cash & Savings $0.00 Based on your entered balances
Retirement & Investments $0.00 May have withdrawal restrictions, taxes, or market risk
UNDERSTANDING YOUR PROGRESS

What Can Change Your Net Worth?

Your financial position can change even when your income stays the same.

Saving More Money

Money retained from income can increase your assets and net worth.

Reducing Your Debt

Paying down principal reduces liabilities. When funded from existing cash, the immediate effect on net worth may be neutral.

Investment Performance

Investment gains can raise asset values, while losses can reduce them.

Changes in Asset Values

Home prices, vehicle values, and other market estimates can change over time.

STEP 06 — FROM INSIGHT TO ACTION

Build Your Net Worth Action Plan

Understanding your financial position is the starting point. Use your numbers to identify manageable actions, build stronger financial habits, and track your progress.

Complete your asset and debt entries to generate a suggested starting point.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Net Worth Tracker FAQs

Understand the calculations, choose realistic values, and learn how to use your results effectively.

How do I calculate my net worth?

Add the current estimated value of everything you own, then subtract the balances of everything you owe.

For example, if your assets total $50,000 and your debts total $30,000, your net worth is $20,000.

Net Worth = Total Assets − Total Liabilities

What does negative net worth mean?

Negative net worth means your outstanding liabilities are greater than the estimated value of your assets.

It is a measurement of your current financial position, not a judgment about your financial success. Reviewing cash flow, required payments, and debt costs can help you decide what to prioritize.

Should I include my home in my net worth?

Yes. If you own a home, you can include your share of its reasonable current market value as an asset.

Enter the outstanding mortgage separately as a liability. This avoids subtracting the mortgage twice.

If a property is jointly owned, be consistent about the ownership share you include and the related debt responsibility.

Should I count my car as an asset?

You can include a vehicle using a realistic current resale value, rather than its original purchase price.

If you still owe money on the vehicle, enter the remaining auto loan balance separately under liabilities.

How often should I update my net worth?

Reviewing your net worth monthly or quarterly can help you recognize changes in savings, investments, property values, and debt.

Monthly tracking offers more detail, while quarterly reviews may be sufficient if your finances change slowly. Consistency matters more than checking constantly.

Is net worth the same as cash savings?

No. Net worth includes assets that may be difficult or costly to convert into cash, such as real estate, vehicles, and retirement investments.

Cash savings represent money held in accounts that may be more readily accessible. Even a high net worth does not guarantee you can comfortably cover your upcoming expenses.

Can paying off debt increase my net worth?

It depends on how the debt is repaid.

If you use $1,000 of existing cash to reduce a loan by $1,000, both your assets and liabilities decrease by the same amount. Your net worth does not immediately change.

Reducing interest costs can improve future financial outcomes, while saving new income or investment gains can increase net worth.

Does the Net Worth Tracker save my information?

The online calculator updates as you enter information, but it does not automatically save every change.

You can explicitly save monthly snapshots in the Net Worth History section. These records are stored in your browser's local storage, not synchronized across devices.

You can export history to CSV or delete saved snapshots. Clearing browser data may remove the stored history. The downloadable Excel workbook is independent from the online tool.
