Changed Jobs? You May Have Retirement Accounts to Review.
If you have worked for multiple employers, you may have retirement accounts from previous jobs. Keeping an accurate list can help you locate those accounts, review their fees and investment options, and understand your available next steps.
Moving retirement money is not always necessary or beneficial. Compare plan rules, costs, investment choices, tax consequences, and any available protections before deciding whether to transfer or consolidate an account.
Review your account inventory at least once a year and after major employment or financial changes.

Retirement Account Organizer Questions & Answers
Learn how to organize retirement accounts, understand important account details, and use your retirement records more effectively.
What is a retirement account organizer?
A retirement account organizer is a recordkeeping tool that helps you maintain an inventory of your retirement accounts in one place.
You can record account types, financial institutions, balances, contributions, fee information, and review reminders.
The Verestly Retirement Account Organizer is designed for personal financial organization and does not connect directly to banks or retirement plan providers.
Which retirement accounts can I track?
You can organize many common U.S. retirement accounts, including:
- 401(k) and designated Roth 401(k) plans
- 403(b) and 457(b) plans
- Traditional and Roth IRAs
- SEP and SIMPLE IRAs
- Solo 401(k) plans
- Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) accounts
- Other retirement accounts
Some retirement arrangements have special rules or multiple components. Use the appropriate account type and verify details with your provider.
How often should I review my retirement accounts?
An annual review is a useful starting point for keeping your retirement account records organized.
You may also want to review your information after changing employers, adjusting contributions, opening a new account, or experiencing major life changes.
During your review, check balances, contribution records, account fees, beneficiary designations, and outstanding follow-up tasks.
Should I combine retirement accounts from previous jobs?
Not necessarily. Combining retirement accounts may simplify recordkeeping, but consolidation is not automatically the best financial decision.
Depending on your situation, you may be able to leave money in an eligible former employer plan, transfer it to another eligible workplace plan, or complete a rollover to an IRA.
Compare investment choices, fees, creditor protections, withdrawal rules, tax consequences, and available plan features before making a decision.
The organizer helps you identify accounts to review. It does not recommend or initiate rollovers.
Does the organizer calculate retirement account fees?
Yes. When you enter a known annual fee percentage, the organizer can estimate the corresponding annual cost using your recorded account balance.
This simplified estimate may exclude administration charges, underlying fund expenses, transaction costs, and other fees.
If you do not know the applicable fee rate, leave the field blank. The organizer will distinguish unknown rates from an explicitly reported 0% rate.
Is my retirement account information stored securely?
The interactive organizer is designed to store entered information locally in your browser rather than requiring a connection to your retirement account providers.
Local browser storage is not the same as encrypted financial storage. Other people with access to the same browser profile may be able to access saved information. Clearing browser data can also remove your records.
Do not enter passwords, Social Security numbers, full account numbers, or beneficiary identification details.
You can also download the free Excel worksheet and store your financial records in a secure location under your control.
Important: Retirement account rules, fees, contribution limits, and tax treatment can vary. Verify specific financial details with your plan administrator, financial institution, or qualified professional.
